Pt Pirie Community Focus Group

A Community Focus Group was formed in 2005 in collaboration with the Port Pirie Regional Development Board.

The purpose was to establish an effective forum to provide a review process and communication link between the project management team and the Community of Port Pirie relating to the management and potential remediation of the former Rare Earths and Uranium Treatment Plant site.

The objectives of the Community Focus Group are:

  • to establish effective communication links between PIRSA and the community relating to health, safety and environmental issues of concern arising from the management and potential remediation of the former Treatment Plant site
  • to provide a mechanism for the dissemination of information to the community about the management and potential remediation of the former Treatment Plant site
  • to enable the community to have input into the various stages of implementation of the management and potential remediation program
  • to ensure that the image of the city of Port Pirie is not damaged by the management and potential remediation process.

The group is represented by a cross section of community, local business and government (state and local).
