1:2 000 000 Scale Geological Monuments in South AustraliaThis new print-on-demand map shows the location and extent of the 433 geological sites so far assessed by the Geological Society of Australia (GSA) to be of special importance in South Australia. The locations are extracted from PIRSA GIS data, which have been modified and created in consultation with GSA. PIRSA uses these data to efficiently identify which geological monuments require conditions applied to leases or licences granted for exploration or mining activities, or for other planning and advice. The site locations can also be overlain on a variety of geological and topographical spatial datasets using the SARIG web map server. A list of the site names in order of GSA reference number (the key identifier) is provided. The background is a version of the 1:2 000 000 State geology map, which is also available for purchase or for viewing on SARIG. Depiction of Local Government areas on the map also allows the user to identify the council responsible for local administrative and planning issues involving geological monuments. More InformationTo order a copy of the map, contact Customer Services Centre. For information on an individual site, contact PIRSA’s representative, Wayne Cowley, or the Geological Society. |
