On the evening of Saturday 7 June 2008, Minerals and Energy Resources SA hosted a Gala Dinner to celebrate the achievements of current staff, past staff and key figures in the mining and exploration industry.
The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Mike Smithson, award winning TV and newspaper journalist with experience as a foreign correspondent, news reporter and political reporter.
Dr Deane Hutton, Adelaide University graduate and well-known speaker on science, space, the internet, the future and communication was the guest speaker.
'The next 125 years for South Australia and the minerals industry' was the topic for discussion by the panel, including Professor Ian Plimer (University of Adelaide), Dr Suzanne Miller (SA Museum) and Dr Paul Heithersay (Executive Director, PIRSA Minerals and Energy).
The art and memorabilia exhibition reflecting the artist's impressions of or feeling for the South Australian landscape attracted numerous excellent entries. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (opens in new window).
