Careers

The Mineral Resources Group (MRG) manages South Australia's mineral resources on behalf of the people of South Australia. The group offers a wide range of career opportunities including careers in administration and management, and positions for executive officers, geologists and engineers.

Roles within the group may include the following:

  • Strategic policy and support - facilitating the development of various mining projects; providing advice and statistics to the government and the community; advising on legislative frameworks
  • Mining regulation and rehabilitation - regulating exploration and mining industries; determining and collecting statutory royalties
  • Geoscientific information management - defining mineral resources and their potential; generating and managing geoscientific information; providing geoscientific advice and data to industry, government and the community

Work experience

PIRSA considers applications from secondary school students wanting to undertake work experience in the geosciences. Successful applicants are provided with a variety of hands-on experiences including field, laboratory and office components of geoscientific work.

Applicants should contact the PIRSA Education Services Officer in writing at least one term before the expected school release time, stating reasons why they have chosen this vocational area. Include all contact details.

Vacation employment

PIRSA can provide opportunities for university students to undertake employment during vacation time. Contact Margaret Doolan for more information.

Job opportunities in the mining industry

PIRSA does not hold information about particular job opportunities within the mining industry. If you are interested in working within the mining industry you could contact individual mining companies. Developing Projects and Operating Mines includes a note of some mining companies involved with mineral projects in South Australia.

Mining and Minerals - Behind the Scenes at the Mining Core Library

PIRSA's Core Library will be open to the public for pre-booked tours on Thursday 20 November as part of the South Australian Government's public sector week, Inside Out 08.
